Tiger Schulmann's Karate incorporates a combination of techniques and principles found in three disciplines — karate, kickboxing, and submission grappling — which provide students with a well-rounded, streetwise self-defense system.
Karate is our traditional hand, elbow, knee, and foot techniques, as well as blocks and kicks. We also get our character-building traditional values from karate.
Kickboxing adds a more modern application of some of our techniques. Combining karate and kickboxing enables you to defend yourself in stand-up situations from long-range and mid-range attacks before someone gets close enough to actually grab you.
Should someone get past our long and mid-range defenses, submission grappling teaches us how to get out of holds and grabs. You also learn throws, joint locks, and submission holds that will help you defend yourself in close-range situations or even if you end up on the ground.
Most other styles of martial arts, boxing, and kickboxing schools usually focus on just one or two of these areas of self-defense. Combining techniques from these three disciplines is what makes Tiger Schulmann's Karate a mixed martial arts system. This hybrid style gives Tiger Schulmann's students the knowledge and technique they need to defend themselves in virtually any situation.

Beginners or black belts, we train our students to the best of their ability. Some students come to us in shape while other have come to us more than 100 pounds overweight. Most students come to us with limited flexibility. Children who started as early as age four and adults who started as late as age 65 have earned their black belt with us. As a student, you are looked upon as an individual. Your instructor will guide you with the only expectation being your willingness to try.
